SEASIDE

Rob Machado on the Seaside: “It’s basically an evolution of the Go Fish into something new. The Go Fish is fast, feels like a skateboard, free and flowing, and I love it. After riding it for a few years, I wanted something more performance-oriented – more cutting, sharper turns. The Seaside is kind of an improvement… less area in the tail, narrowing the edges of the swallowtail, creating more camber and reducing the nose.
All of these elements are designed to slaughter, while the Go Fish remains fun and relaxed.”

The Seaside only comes in Quad trim, why?

“I decided that if I was going to make a quad, I was going to go all the way – it would be a pure quad. I designed the concaves and the bottom accordingly. I basically redesigned the entire concave stem that I used on the Moonbeam and the Go Fish, and adapted it to the quad so that it would all work together.”

Why name this shape after your home break?

“Coming up with names for boards is probably the hardest thing in the world [laughs]. It’s just perfect when I’m surfing at my home place Seaside.”

Why is the Seaside made of helium?

“The first one I made for Tahiti was LFT, and I surfed it with 6-foot tubes. But most people surf boards like the Seaside in small beach waves or small points, so we built it out of Helium because it’s really light, very responsive, flexible with a soft feel, and very durable. I think it’s the best option for a shape like the Seaside in small, weak waves.”

Wave type

The Seaside is an evolution of the Go Fish, built to excel in small, weak waves. Think of this shape for rip-roaring, while the Go Fish remains relaxed and fun. Recommended for waves 1-5 feet, with a tendency toward weak or flat conditions.

Characteristics

One of our most popular designs, this shape is inviting, fun and forgiving, with plenty of power to paddle. It is an update from the Go Fish, with less area in the tail, narrowing the swallow tail edges, creating more curve and reducing the nose.
